Turkish Poetry in Russian Language

In 2024, appeared in Russia the magazine Perevod dedicated to the world poetry, philosophy and translation problems. So far, the magazine has three issues that include new translations of classics belonging to different traditions such as Shakespeare or Góngora and each issue includes a poetry sample dedicated to a specific country, which contains renowned authors as well as prominent young poets in the world of contemporary poetry. The materials of the Perevod magazine are shown in a bilingual version, as the magazine aims to be a meeting place for poets, philosophers and translators from different cultures, languages and poetics. The work of established translators and young poets with an interest in translation also converges in this magazine. The editorial board of the magazine includes the philologists, poets and translators Natalia Azarova, Yulia Dreizys and Kirill Korchaguin. At the beginning of the summer of 2024, the first issue of the magazine was published with the support of the “Île Thélème Foundation”, the issues are available in physical format and in electronic version (that can be downloaded for free on the magazine’s website https://perevodmag.com/) The appearance of a magazine like this is a happy event, especially because it is a project that connects and broadens the horizons of poetry by covering the diversity of linguistics of different regions, showing the impact of literature from different countries today.

Turkey is the country to which the special section of the third issue, published in 2025, is dedicated. This issue presents a journey through Turkish poetry to the present, this edition brings to the Russian language the poetics and worldviews contained in the poetic diversity of Turkey, included in a poetry block that represents the writing of different generations of Turkish poets, starting with the poet Nâzım Hikmet (1902-1963) in translation by Natalia Azarova in collaboration with Elizaveta Kotomina and Maria Lavrova; continuing with poets such as İlhan Berk (1918-2008) in translation by Natalia Azarova in collaboration with Leonid Benkovich and Darina Sarimamedova; Ece Ayhan (1931-2002) in translation by Kirill Azyorny, Kirill Korchaguin, Dmitri Kuzmin and Anna Sidirenko, in collaboration with Elizaveta Kotomina; Lale Müldür (1956) in translation by Lana Lenkova in collaboration with Leonid Benkovich; Küçük İskender (1964-2019) in translation by Dmitri Kuzmin in collaboration with Elizaveta Kotomina; Gökçenur Ç. (1971) in translation by Dmitri Kuzmin; Nilay Özer (1976) in translation by Evgenia Suslova in collaboration with Sabina Busareva, Maria Lavrova and Polina Poleshchuk and ends with the inclusion of young poets such as Efe Duyan (1981) in translation by Dmitri Kuzmin, Mikhail Bordunovsky and Maii Mamedova in collaboration with Leonid Benkovich; Gonca Özmen (1982) in translation by Kirill Korchaguin, Natalia Ignatieva, Rostislav Rusakov , Anna Tarasova and Uliana Mor in collaboration with Mikhail Amrakhov, closing with the young poet Ümit Güçlü (1989) in translation by Elizaveta Kotomina in collaboration with Leonid Benkovich and Maria Lavrova.
